
Psyllium Husk is the cleaned dried seed coat (epidermis) seperated
by the thrashing & winnowing from the seeds (Plantango Ovala
fork) in the commercial language it is called blonde Psyllium or
Ishabghul.
Ishabghul
is the annual herbal plant without stem. The 30-40 cms. Tall tillers
sprout from the ground surface. The leaves are hairy with 7.5-20
cms in lenght & .65 sm in breadth. The spikes are 3-4 cms. Long
with 60-80 seeds which mature progressively from the bottom upwards.
Isabghul
can be grown even on soils of low fertility as its nitrogen requirements
is less. The crop should be top dressed with an application of 25
kg. N/ha. A pulse crop during Kharif season will build up enough
fertility for Isabghul.
